Restylane® Family

Restylane® injectable fillers

Dr. Katherine Hein offers the Family of Restylane® fillers including Restylane®, Restylane-L®, Restylane Silk®, Restylane® Lyft, Restylane® Defyne, Restylane® Refyne, Restylane® Contour, and Restylane® Kysse™.

If you are looking for a non-surgical enhancement procedure to smooth facial lines, wrinkles, and folds, provide lip enhancement, and add volume, a Restylane® product may be right for you. Restylane® dermal fillers do not require testing prior to use. Unlike bovine collagen products, the Restylane® family of fillers is composed of a naturally occurring substance (hyaluronic acid) that is found in the human body.

Dependent upon your cosmetic concerns, Dr. Hein will recommend the appropriate Restylane® product to meet your goals. All of the injections are administered by Dr. Hein.

The Restylane® dermal fillers are FDA-approved and are safe, cosmetic dermal fillers that restore volume and fullness to the skin.

What Restylane® products are used at Accurate Aesthetics?

Dr. Hein offers the following Restylane® Family products at Accurate Aesthetics Plastic Surgery:

  • Restylane® and Restylane-L® are safe and natural cosmetic dermal fillers that restore volume to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane® is also used for lip enhancement in patients over the age of 21. Restylane-L® contains lidocaine for patient comfort.
  • Restylane® Lyft™ is the first and only HA filler to be FDA-approved to treat your hands and your face. Restylane® Lyft™ adds volume to the cheeks, midface area, and back of the hands which helps provide a more natural-looking, youthful appearance.
  • Do you have thinning lips and lines around your mouth? Restylane® Silk is the first FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip augmentation and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth. Restylane® Silk is for patients 21 years of age or older.
  • Do you want to improve your lips’ volume, texture, and color while maintaining a full range of expressions? Restylane® Kysse™ is the first lip filler designed with XpresHAn Technology™ for flexible movement and natural-looking volume. Restylane® Kysse™ is for patients 21 years of age or older.
  • Want to improve the appearance of your smile lines with natural-looking results? Restylane® Refyne™ is designed with XpresHAn Technology™ and is available for appropriate patients over the age of 21 who are interested in softening the moderate to severe lines, wrinkles, and folds around the mouth.
  • Are you 21 years or older and have deep laugh lines around your mouth or a weak-looking chin? Restylane® Defyne uses XpresHAn Technology™ and Hyaluronic acid (HA) to temporarily help smooth your deep laugh lines (known as nasolabial folds and marionette lines) and improve the appearance of chin retrusion.
  • If you are looking to add volume to your midface region, Restylane® Contour is the only cheek dermal filler with XpresHAn Technology™ and can temporarily improve cheek contour while maintaining natural facial expressions and movement in patients 21 years and older.

What is Restylane® made of?

Restylane® the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of a crystal-clear gel called NASHA™, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

How is Restylane® different from other hyaluronic acid-based products?

Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only Restylane® is non-animal derived. This quality virtually reduces any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions.

WHAT IS XpresHAn Technology™?

XpresHAn Technology™ is an advanced manufacturing process used in certain Restylane® dermal filler products. XpresHAn Technology™ creates a smooth, injectable gel that helps maintain natural facial expression and facial motion.

What should patients do prior to treatment?

Restylane® requires no pretesting, but patients should take a few precautions before being treated. Patients should avoid using aspirin, or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, St. John’s Wort, fish oil, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. If you are especially concerned about bruising, please call for our long list of medications and supplements to avoid prior to injection or surgery. You may also want to take Arnica Montana, a homeopathic remedy, around the time of injection.

Is Restylane® safe?

Yes. Restylane® has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Because Restylane® is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. Virtually any risk of animal-based disease transmission is removed. The most commonly reported adverse events were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.

Can Restylane® be used anywhere on the face?

Restylane® has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. However, it is currently indicated in the U.S. only for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds.

How long does Restylane® last?

The treatment results vary for each Restylane® product. Dr. Hein can walk you through the anticipated results during your dermal filler appointment. The unique NASHA™ technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone.

How often should I have treatments with Restylane®?

Restylane® lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

How is Restylane® different from Botox Cosmetic?

Restylane® is a natural, cosmetic filler. In contrast, BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport are medications (neurotoxins) that block nerve transmission and relax the underlying muscles. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both filler and neurotoxin to optimize their rejuvenation.

How is Restylane® different from bovine collagen?

Restylane® is proven to deliver a longer-lasting effect than traditional collagen. In addition, bovine collagen is derived from animals (cow) and requires an allergy test. Because Restylane® is non-animal-based, virtually any risk of animal-based disease transmission is removed, and it can be administered without pretesting. No waiting is required.

Do the injections hurt?

Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, your physician may anesthetize the treatment area. Restylane® is also mixed with a local anesthetic, so you will have a numbing effect as the injection proceeds.

Is Restylane® approved by the FDA?

Yes. Restylane® received FDA approval for use in the U.S.
